Motivational Monday - Developing our Best Self

Sister Gaynor taught a wonderful lesson in Relief Society about talents.    Her handout consisted of  several encouraging tips that I thought would be perfect to share here.   Thanks Sister Gaynor!

Developing YOUR best SELF:

Attitude isn't much, it is everything.    Have a positive attitude.
Pray every day for guidance from the Spirit
Let your enthusiasm show
Develop a sense of humor about yourself
Develop the habit of work.   Work till you are tired.  Take a break and then work again
Dont' settle for mediocre
Don't allow yourself to be crushed by failure.   Success grows from failure.
Practice makes perfect.
Don't be envious of anyone who is more talented then you.    Be the best YOU you can be.
Forgive yourself when you fail, then work hard to achieve better tomorrow.
Great works are the result of heroic struggle (Remember that Christ was once a helpless baby)
Throw yourself into each effort - heart and soul
Commit yourself to a life of service
No struggle, no progress
Don't say, "I haven't the time"   You have as much time every day as "The Master" had
Read, seek knowledge.  B e hungry to learn.
No matter what you do, nurture a heart of kindness and service
When you're in trouble, study the scriptures
Look for what you can learn from others- not what's wrong with them
"Poor me" is no help at all.  Forget yourself and think of others
Look, really LOOK for opportunities to serve others.
If your at a loss for what to do, pray for inspiration
Be inventive, there is always a way to accomplish things.
All doors open to a hard enough push
Money is OK, but it isn't what life is about
Inspiration doesn't come when you are idle
Habit is powerful.  Ge into the habit of serving
Have a positive Mind set
Don't envy other's success, Be generous-spirited and love others whole-heartedly
Keep your standards high at all times  Aim beyond your capacity!
Forgiveness is a wonderful talent.  Forgive often.
Compassion is an essential ingredient in life.

Motivational Monday: Check out the links

Be sure to check out the other blogs in the ward:   (They are located on the right sidebar)

Elder Schow- New York Mission:   This is a great blog that Elder Schow created a few months ago.    What a great way for him to share his testimony online!  Go read what he says and be sure to leave him some "comment Love!"
(You can access his blog by finding his link on the right side bar or by clicking HERE!)

Fifth Ward Young Men:   That's right, the Young Men have a blog!  If you are a parent of a young man in the ward- you might like this.    There are even pictures of recent activities!

Relief Society Recipes:   Along with recipes of previously enjoyed Relief Society delights-you will currently find 3 fabulous video tutorials all about Powerless Cooking!   This would be useful for anybody who is wanting to "get prepared!"

And since it is Monday- consider this for a Motivational Thought:

"A spotless house is a sign of a wasted life."

On that note- enjoy the beautiful Sunshine this week!

(well...unless it's raining of course;)

Happy Monday!

Powerless Cooking Tutorials: Emergency Preparedness

With all of the weather related disasters we've been witnessing around the world many have felt a renewed determination to get their food storage in order and to be more prepared.     I recently came across an amazing website titled Food Storage Made Easy.    They had a recent post dedicated entirely to Powerless Cooking and offered several helpful tutorials, three of which I have included for you here.   They are very short clips, but each one offers a useful technique for cooking with zero to very minimal amounts of power.   Enjoy!!!

Cardboard Box Oven:   This idea was new to me, but it appears to be a cinch to make and would certainly come in handy in a pinch.

Wonder Box:  If you were unable to attend Sister Kay Ridley's AMAZING wonder box demonstration last month-this clip can show you a bit about them.    (Then be sure to talk to Kay-she's got wonderful ideas and recipes!!!)

Sun Oven:  This seems to be the most durable and efficient cooking source for long periods of time using nothing but SOLAR energy.   Very cool!
