Alberta Health Services Measles Precautions
Alberta Health Services has issued the following as precautions advised after a confirmed case of measles in the Lethbridge area.
Dear Parent / Guardian and Staff:
Re: Measles in Lethbridge Area
There has been a confirmed case of measles disease in the Lethbridge area. Measles is an illness caused by a virus that is spread easily through the air, and is very contagious to persons who have not had the disease in the past or have not been vaccinated. Measles tends to be more severe in infants, young children and adults. There is no treatment for measles disease. It can be prevented through immunization. The last measles outbreak in the Lethbridge area was in 1997; thus, most children 16 years of age and younger who are not vaccinated will not have natural immunity. There is high probability that measles disease will spread in Southern Alberta over the next weeks and possibly months. People who have not been vaccinated, or who have not previously had measles, can develop disease within 7 to 21 days of exposure to a contagious case.
What you can do to protect yourself, your family and the public:
1. PLEASE WATCH FOR ILLNESS: If you develop any of the symptoms listed below, BEFORE you visit a medical clinic or hospital, CALL a Health Link Alberta nurse at 1-866-408-5465 or call your local physician. This will help reduce the potential risk of spreading the disease to others.
Symptoms of Measles - ALL of the following:
· Fever of 38.3° C (100° F) or higher.
· Cough, runny nose or red eyes.
· Red blotchy rash appears 3 to 7 days after the fever starts, beginning behind the ears and on the face and spreading down to the body and then to the arms and legs.
2. If you or your child develops symptoms, please keep your child home for at least 4 full days after rash starts.
3. If you or your child has been exposed to a known case of measles, and you are not vaccinated; please keep your child home for 21 days. Isolate them from all activities to prevent spreading illness to others.
4. Immunization is the only method to protect your child from acquiring measles disease and the possible complications of measles.
Immunization details:
a. There will be additional immunization clinics held by Alberta Health Services.
b. During this time of increased risk of measles transmission in the community, Alberta Health Services is offering one dose of measles containing vaccine to infant ages 6 to 12 months.
c. If you are uncertain of your child’s immunization status, please contact your local Public Health office.
If you have any questions, please call a Health Link Alberta nurse at 1-866- 408- 5465.
Sincerely,
Vivien Suttorp, MD, MPH, CCFP, FCFP Lead Medical Officer of Health Alberta Health Services –

Amazing High River Help
As of right now, we are not going to send any more people to High River.
They have no work orders and the church leaders have basically asked
that we send no more people until further notice. Please read the
attached letters from our area authority and President Low. Thanks so
much for your willingness. President Beazer
Dear Brethren,
I just heard from Elder Spackman and this is the current situation in High River. A marvelous turn out of volunteers have been coming to High River. Much has been accomplished. They really don't need any volunteers right right now. IF you have groups more or less on their way they can always find work but the better plan would be to save the man power until they are needed further. The situation is quite fluid and currently they don't have job orders to fill. Elder Spackman is so appreciative of the support that you have all offered. The turn out has been tremendous and those in need have been so blessed by your efforts. Please make sure that before any group goes that they coordinate with the Ludlow's and or President Spackman. We are very grateful brethren for your assistance and for the faithful Christ like response of your members.

Dear Brethren,
Since the call for help a few days ago, there was an overwhelming response to the flood relief efforts. Over 1400 church members arrived on Sunday alone to help. This was combined with thousands of volunteers not of our faith. The church has effectively "run out" of work orders to complete in High River. We have now been asked to hold off any further groups as there may not be a lot to do. Our work parties on Sunday and Monday needed to look pretty hard for people to help. (especially the Monday group) There may be a further call for help if another area of High River is opened, but we will wait for further word. We REALLY appreciate the efforts of those who went to High River. We also appreciate those who were prepared to go up this week to help. Your willingness to serve is admirable. Thank you.
If any really want to go up, they are still welcome to go. But the call from the church is now over. They may have to wander the streets looking for people to help. Please get this word out to those who signed up to go to High River.
Thanks for being so faithful.

The time has come: Help for High River Clean Up Needed
As many of you heard in Sacrament Meeting yesterday, there is a huge need for
Men, Women, and Children over the age of 14
to help in High River with the clean up efforts. The effects of the
recent flooding has been devastating on that community and our
Preisthood Leaders are appealing to all of us for help! Our Bishop has
reminded us that the need is high and will remain that way for some
time, and that this is an opportunity for us to consecrate our time and
our talents in the rescue effort!
Shifts have been established, and groups of members
are leaving daily from the West Stake Centre to help transport any and
all willing workers. Our Stake Leaders need to know a total number each
day of who has volunteered to help for the following day. If
you or your family members feel that you can help, please contact John
Hardy (coordinator for our ward) to be put on that list, AND to find out
what to bring! Of course, our Bishop and other Priesthood
Leaders are standing by and ready to give you any help/information that
you might need in regards to this as well.
We
are asking that you please read the following letter from the Stake and
then be sure to notify those that you Visit Teach, asking them to do
the same.
We want to thank you for all the
good things you do, and for your willingness to help those in need.
Please keep these people in the High River area in your prayers!!!
Letter from the Stake Presidency RE: High River Flood Relief
Dear members of the Cardston West Stake:
As
you are no doubt aware, some areas of our Province recently experienced
a devastating flood. Many of our members, and their neighbors, were
forced to evacuate their homes. As they have now been allowed back into
their homes, the extent of the damage is enormous.
We have been asked by our priesthood
leaders to help in the rescue of these people. They need help now. We
need volunteers each day of this coming week to go to High River and
help with the clea

Some missions online already!
After the recent announcement that
missionaries will be able to use some social media (facebook, blogging, etc.) for missionary
work, our Young Women found some of our ward missionaries.
http://mormon.org/me/BGF3/ Mitchel
http://mormon.org/me/BGF3/
and
I have searched for Austin and Lorijane, but they aren't up yet. Keep looking for them and email me when they come online. Take a look for other missionaries and friends you know or enter your own profile!
(Missionaries are only using their first names for security reasons).
So...on http://mormon.org search under "People" then "Meet Mormons" and then enter a first name and any other key words that you think might identify the person...for Jared I did "Jared California mission" and up popped some pictures and I clicked on his smiley face!
And it begins...What an exciting time in the work of the Lord!
Enjoy!

Easy Breezy Recipes & Tips
Thanks to everyone who contributed and came and enjoyed this fun evening full of summery greatness! Below are some of the tips & pics from Tanis - please feel free to email me any others you remember and I'll add them :)
Marty's tips:
Click here for recipes: Easy Breezy Recipes
Tips from Louise Jensen:
* When cooking with tomato sauce, remember to add a pinch of brown sugar. (It will help combat the acidity.)
* Adding a pinch of salt to your icing will help take away that sugary feeling/taste
*Sister Sheri McDonald says Cottage Cheese lasts longer when stored upside down.
Donna Beazer shared with us the schedule for the summer reading program at the Jim and Mary Kearl Library. Program begins on July 9th with a kick off carnival from 1pm-3pm.
There are weekday activities scheduled for kids aged 3-14 AND a
Closing Concert to celebrate a wonderful Summer of Reading on August 15th 2013. A great idea for the kids, especially with the pool being closed!!!
To
ensure perfectly tender chicken or beef - soak it overnight (in the
fridge;) in a "bath" of oil, chopped onion, and lemon juice. (A bath
means fully submerged or covered:)!
Marty
also uses his favorite spice which is Seasoning Salt WITH extra garlic
powder, salt and pepper added to it, and Italian salad dressing on
everything to keep it moist.
