Lethbridge Temple Location Announced

5 September 2023 - LETHBRIDGE, Alberta News Release

Lethbridge Alberta Temple Site

This temple will be built on more than nine acres located at the corner of Whoop Up Drive West and Mauretania Road West, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Plans call for a multistory temple of approximately 45,000 square feet and an accompanying distribution center.

The Lethbridge Alberta Temple was first announced in April 2023 by Church President Russell M. Nelson. This will be the fourth house of the Lord in the province of Alberta and the 10th overall in Canada. Alberta is home to the first temple built in the country and just the sixth temple built by the Church of Jesus Christ. The Cardston Alberta Temple, which was dedicated one hundred years ago in August 1923 by previous Church President Heber J. Grant, is also the first temple constructed outside of the United States. The other eight temples in operation in Canada are found in the cities of Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Regina, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg.

In September 1830, the father and brother of Joseph Smith Jr., the first Prophet and President of The Church of Jesus Christ, preached in several Canadian towns close to the United States border. Between 1830 and 1850, some 2,500 Canadians joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Cardston, Alberta, was settled by Latter-day Saints in 1887. Today, Canada is home to more than 200,000 Latter-day Saints in over 490 congregations.

NEW: Group Temple Appointments We are pleased to announce that members in your temple district may now schedule group appointments for proxy sealings, endowments, and initiatory ordinances using the online system for temple appointments. This feature is especially helpful for family and friends wanting to attend the temple together. What Is the Group Scheduling Process? When you schedule an appointment, check the box labeled "Additional people" and enter the number of male and female members you wish to invite. After you finalize the appointment, your appointment is confirmed for all seats. Instructions will be provided on how to invite other group members to confirm their seat. This step is not required. Please Note: If guests choose to confirm their seats, the appointment will appear on their My Temple Appointment page and at the temple recommend desk allowing temple workers to better direct guests when they arrive. Important Considerations The online appointment system already allows members to schedule groups for proxy baptisms. Maximum group sizes vary by temple based on capacity. Group appointments will continue to be available by emailing or calling the temple. Schedule an Appointment Tools and Resources Get Free Access to Ancestry, MyHeritage, and More FamilySearch has arranged to provide free access to Church members for the following services: Ancestry®, MyHeritage, Findmypast, American Ancestors, Filae, and Geneanet. The vast records and services available can help members learn more about their ancestors and build their family trees to identify more ancestors in need of temple work.  All Church members can set up accounts for these services free of charge by visiting https://www.familysearch.org/access and signing in with a member FamilySearch account.
