Self Reliance Fireside Feb 6th (date change)

Self Reliance is more than having food storage, a good job, or money in the bank. Self Reliance is the ability, commitment and effort to provide for the spiritual, temporal and emotional necessities of life for self and family.

The Stake is holding a Self Reliance fireside on Sunday, January 23  February 6th, at 6:30 at the Stake Center. All classes will be offered: Personal Finance, Education for  better employment, Finding a better job, Starting and growing a business, Finding strength in the Lord (Emotional Resiliance). However, it will depend on whether there is enough interest in the class for it to be available.

We realize some wards have started or will soon be starting their own groups, but if you know of someone in your ward who is interested or can benefit from this program, please encourage them to come to the fireside on the 23rd to find out more about the program. If you have anyone that may have questions before this date, they can contact the Stake Self-Reliance specialist's (see Tools).

Returning to in-person learning January 10

Supporting the well-being of students

Early Childhood Services to Grade 12 students will return to in-person learning on January 10 with measures in place to help them continue learning in a safe environment.

At-home rapid tests and medical-grade masks will be distributed through schools to lower the risk of transmission and increase the safety of students.

Experts, parents and students continue to stress the importance of in-person learning and for students to be able to maintain a connection with their peers.

Health measures already in place will continue, include masking, physical distancing, cohorting, and improved hygiene practices.

Rapid tests and masks will be shipped to all schools beginning this week.

Additional supports to address learning disruption

Beginning next week, students in grades 4 to 9 can access free online tutoring resources to help them catch up on important skills and learning they may have fallen behind on due to the pandemic.

Through the e-Tutoring Hub, students can watch pre-recorded learning sessions on numeracy and literacy at any time. Tutoring services will be expanded to include more grades and subjects later this year, as well as live tutoring sessions.

Adjusted isolation requirements as of January 3rd

https://www.alberta.ca/isolation.aspx

Isolation helps prevent the spread of COVID-19 by reducing the number of people you could infect if you have symptoms or test positive by staying home and avoiding others. Effective January 3, Albertans are legally required to isolate as outlined below:

  • Fully vaccinated (2 doses or 1 dose Janssen): Isolate for 5 days from the start of symptoms or until they resolve, whichever is longer, if symptoms are not related to a pre-existing condition. For 5 days following isolation, wear a mask at all times when around others outside of home.
  • Not fully vaccinated (1 dose or less): Isolate for 10 days from the start of symptoms or until they resolve, whichever is longer, if symptoms are not related to a pre-existing condition.
  • If you test negative and have symptoms, you should still stay home and away from others until symptoms resolve.

Quarantine limits potential spread from people who have been exposed to COVID-19 but have not yet developed symptoms or tested positive.

  • Close contacts of positive cases are no longer required to quarantine for 14 days.
  • Federal border measures still apply for all international travellers entering Canada.
