Hailey - Young Citizen of the Year

Congratulations to our very own Hailey!
Town of Cardston Young Citizen of the Year
This is a "twofer" for Hailey as she also earned this recognition in 2024.

Mayor’s Speech – 2026 Youth Citizen of the Year - Hailey Shaw

It is my pleasure to recognize our Youth Citizen of the Year, Hailey Shaw.

Our community is fortunate to have many young people who make a difference, but Hailey stood out because of the way she quietly lifted others up every single day.

As a regular at the local youth drop-in centre, Hailey became known as someone who went out of her way to be a friend and a champion for others. She was often the first to notice when someone was feeling left out or alone, and she never hesitated to reach out with a smile, a kind word, or an invitation to belong. She truly embodied what it means to build community.

Hailey's commitment to serving others extended far beyond the youth centre. She volunteered with Main Street outreach, supported youth centre fundraisers, helped at the Food Bank, participated in food drives, and was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.

As a member of the EPIC Youth Council, the F.U.S.E. Team, Hailey demonstrated outstanding leadership, creativity, and strategic thinking, helping develop new outreach initiatives and programs for local youth. She was focused, engaged, and always looking for ways to strengthen the programs and support those around her.

What made Hailey truly exceptional was that she never volunteered for recognition. More often than not, she was one of the last to leave the youth centre—sweeping the floors, washing dishes, or helping tidy up. She led by example, showing that every act of service, no matter how small, could make a meaningful difference.

Hailey's compassion, leadership, and commitment to empowering others made her an inspiration to those around her. She represented the very best of our community and reminded us that age is no barrier to making a lasting impact.

Hailey, thank you for your kindness, your servant heart, and for the positive example you set for your peers and our entire community. Your willingness to serve others and inspire those around you made you a truly deserving recipient of the Youth Citizen of the Year Award.

Congratulations, Hailey.

Hailey was also the 2024 Youth Citizen of the Year, and the only person in Cardston to ever win a Citizen of the Year award more than once.

AB Health Care Card Scam

Posted on behalf of Cardston RCMP:
Alberta Health Care Card Scam
The Cardston RCMP is warning the public about a fraudulent text message circulating in Alberta that falsely claims recipients’ health cards are no longer valid and require replacement through an online application.
The scam message appears to come from a government agency and advises recipients that they must transition to a new “Electronic Health Identification System” to maintain access to health-care services. The message includes a link directing individuals to provide personal information.
The Cardston RCMP would like to remind the public that government agencies will not send unsolicited text messages requesting personal, financial, or health information through an online link.
Fraudsters often use urgent language, official-looking messages, and requests for immediate action to pressure victims into providing sensitive information. These scams may attempt to collect personal details that can be used for identity theft or other fraudulent activity.
Anyone who believes they have provided personal or financial information to a scammer should contact their financial institution and report the incident to their local police service. You can also report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca or by calling 1-888-495-8501.
