December RS Newsletter

Presidency Message

It’s Christmas! Definitely my favorite time of year, I’ve been listening to Christmas songs for a couple of weeks already. One of my favorites right now is called Instrument of Peace by the Canadian Tenors which actually comes from a Catholic prayer. It talks about giving things like love, faith, comfort, hope and forgiveness. Presents are great! A beautiful tree with nicely wrapped gifts underneath it is such a wonderful sight. It feels so good to receive a thoughtful present and even better to be able to give them. This season as we’re contemplating all the gifts that we’ll be buying for our loved ones, let us not forget the more important gifts of love and service that we can give to all of those around us. President Hugh B. Brown said that the Spirit of Christmas illuminates the picture window of the soul, and we look out upon the world’s busy life and become more interested in people than in things. To catch the real meaning of the Spirit of Christmas, we need only drop the last syllable, and it becomes the Spirit of Christ. Merry Christmas sisters! Sis. Kelsie Payne

Community Activities and Service Opportunities

From Stake RS President Sis. Diana Mackenzie

There are several things going on in the town of Cardston that you might want to help out with or be involved in.

-The Kainai Women’s Wellness Lodge (Shelter) (located beside the old Blood hospital on the reserve across from the Catholic church) are always looking for donations of hygiene kits, blankets and clothing. They are looking specifically right now for winter clothing for children and women. New or used clothing would be very appreciated. The donations can be dropped off at the Shelter.

-The Town of Cardston is asking for a donation of a food item or clothing item for those who attend the Community Awareness evening at the Civic Center Monday Nov. 28th.

-Nov. 18th is the Festival of Lights at the Remington Carriage Museum (RCM) 6-9 pm, parade, carriage rides $2.00.  Free admission to the museum that night.

-Lots of activities at the Public Library.  (Flyer follows but easiest to view on www.cardstonlibrary.ca )

-Freddies on Main are doing a project on Wednesdays where they invite homeless people in for food and games. They are in need of volunteers. Pam Heggie is the one to contact, you can find her on facebook.

-There are many activities going on at the Provincial Building for families. Check Facebook ‘Cardston & District Family Center’ or on Instagram @Cardston_districtfamilycentre  or call Sonja Richards 403-653-7077.

-Sonja Richards is doing a “Head, Hands, Feet” project and collecting toques, mittens, socks for those in need. If you love to knit or crochet and want a project to work on contact Sonja.

These are just a few of the things going on. We encourage those who want to serve to check out some of these opportunities.
